About the Doodler

20071115 Maybe

Joanne grew up in Manila, where she was raised on a steady diet of Mel Brooks, Monty Python, MAD Magazine, Mang Ambo, and Marvel Comics (thanks, Dad).

She went to the US to study business, and has spent the past few years around America, Europe, and Asia working in management consulting and at various start-ups (including one selling furniture and home decor online, and another entertainment for mobile users in emerging markets). Creating slides for clients and whiteboarding with entrepreneurs has heavily influenced her doodles.

She’s currently working on a web comic, graphic novel, children’s book, and documenting her foray back into art in this blog.

She wishes she had written the manifesto below.

Why “Mojo Nation”?

“MoJo” is a play on an old nickname that my friends gave me. I added “Nation” to the domain a long time ago with the idea that I would maintain various “nations” for each of my interests: DestiNation (travel), CombiNation (collab sessions with other artists), ImagiNation (innovation and design)… It got to a point where the pairings were a bit of a stretch, especially as I tried to come up with topics just to fit words that I liked (PolliNation! ExplaNation! FasciNation!). I decided it was time for ElimiNation (heh), and put the whole idea on the backburner till I find a less corny way to do it.

How often do you update the site?

The short answer is — whenever I have the time. I started out with the goal of updating it once a week, but that’s been challenging as I’ve been working on other projects as well. You can follow me on Twitter / Tumblr or subscribe to this blog so that you can be alerted when I post something new.

How do I subscribe to your blog?

You can enter your email address in the box under “Follow this blog via email.” You’ll see it under the slideshow on the homepage, or on the right sidebar of all other pages (even this one — scroll up and look to the right). Alternatively, you can subscribe to my RSS feed.
